The Albatross Is Pure Hate. This is the incantation repeated by Klot in Chapter 11, when he sacrifices himself to DAMOCLES.

 

The meaning may derive from the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, published in 1798.
